UNCOAG
The United Nations Committee on Agriculture (UNCOAG) is a governing body of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which has over 130 member nations. Since its foundation in 1971, it has played an important and influential role in giving the FAO technical advice on agricultural issues such as the use of pesticides, the management of natural resources, nutrition, and sustainability.
With global warming and land degradation, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ensure food security. UNCOAG is promoting more sustainable agriculture in order to continue ensuring food security for as long as possible.
This year, under the overarching theme of “Global Institutions,” delegates will focus on how bodies like UNCOAG can strengthen cooperation between nations, innovate global agricultural policies, and address systemic inequalities in food production and distribution. Discussions will highlight how institutional collaboration can help achieve food security even in the face of climate change, population growth, and resource scarcity.
