UN environment program

Theme: Can technologies help us in the fight for climate change? On the contrary, should the use of technology be limited to benefit the environment?

The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is the leading global authority on the environment and was established in 1972. Today, it describes itself as focused on helping countries transition to low-carbon and resource-efficient economies, strengthening environmental governance and law, safeguarding ecosystems, and providing evidence-based data to inform policy decisions.

Climate change is one of the most important challenges faced by humankind and certainly the most important of our century. As rising sea levels, wildfires, droughts and storms threaten our livelihoods, some global actors are turning to technologies for answers. Despite the difficulties encountered in introducing cybertechnology as a solution to global warming, it can play a pivotal role in the fight against the environmental crisis. In this debate, delegates will be expected to find innovative ways of fighting climate change through technologies or, on the contrary, limit their emissions by cutting their use.
