INOMUN 2025: Global institutions
On the 17th of December 2025, we had the great privilege of witnessing the 10th edition of INOMUN in the Conseil Régional Haut-de-France in Lille.
INOMUN is a recreation of the debate of the United Nations. The delegates are all assigned a country within a committee where they discuss this year's subject :
« In a world under strain, can global institutions still play a major role? »
In this edition, we feature no less than seven committees, including UNEP, UN Women, UNHRC, HCR, UNSC, and ECOSOC.
In addition, 50 students from the 2 organising High Schools, Lycée Henri Wallon and Lycée international Montebello, are in the different teams taking care of the smooth running of the debates, such as the chairs, the admins, the socials, the finance team, the press team and of course the Secretary Generals, Camille Ryckebusch and Louise Michez.
On December 17, the first day of the conference, a hundred students coming from 13 different highshools from the North of France to Paris arrived in the conseil regional all with a feeling of exitment for the intense three days that they were going to live. In the afternoon, when all the participants had finally arrived, the two secretary generals welcomed the 15 participating high schools with a grand opening featuring the 1st SG, Marceau Cormery, and Ruchira Gupta, an Emmy-award-winning journalist and founder of Apne Aap Women Worldwide.
After the ceremony, the delegates were distributed in the 7 different committees. The Chairs ran the debates with the same procedure as in the United Nations. Each delegate had the opportunity to speak in front of an assembly, defending points of views that are not always theirs, as they have to take their countries’ position. The begining was challenging as the delegates did not know each other and the debates were still setteling in. However, after a few mock debates, the delegates started to feel more confident and some interesting and engaging discussions started.
On December 18, the delegates had the opportunity to debate for the entire day within their committees. Meanwhile, the social team was here to cheer up the delegates when they were feeling less confident. They organised ice-breakers as well as games in order for the delegates to get to know each other. The game that they played the most was “murder at the UN” which is a role play were the participants walk around the room and have to guess who is the murderer.
In the mean time, the press team was walking around the different committees to take the most beautiful pictures of the event and for the delegates to have memories from their three days of INOMUN.
At 12 p.m., it was time for everyone to have a break and regain forces for the afternoon with the lunch which had been carefully choosen by the finance team. The break was also a moment for the delegates to send each other lolipops which has now become a tradition in INOMUN. This activity is organised by the social team in order for the delegates to encourage each other. The principle is that anyone can ask a member of the social team to give a lolipop to another delegate followed by a small encouraging word to the chosen person.
In the early afternoon, when the debates were at their peak, each committee was interrupted by a “crisis situation”. The Chairs had upstreamed carefully prepared fictional situations which would have happened in certain countries, like a war breaking out or a natural disaster. These situations were presented in each of the committees by special guest speakers and later discussed during the afternoon between each country.
Now that all the delegates were ready to confront their ideas in the General Assembly and had polished their resolutions they all gathered in the General Assembly for the lobbying. It is a moment when the delegations walk around the room to talk to other delegations of their resolutions and try to gather as much signatures as possible. The number of signatures will then influence the choice of the Chairs on which clause will be discussed.
On the 19th of December, the last day and the climax of the INOMUN 10th edition conference, it was time for all the committees to confront their perspectives in the General Assembly. Each country proposed different resolutions regarding the role of international organisations. With the numerous wars breaking out around the world, the rise of the extremes and the increasing unilateralism, it has become very hard for Global Institutions to make effective decisions on an international level. This is why the delegations discussed on concrete measures to strenghen international peace and increase cooperation. Some thought as well that the problem was coming from inequalities in the representation of countries within the United Nation, so they proposed measures to reduce these inequalities such as reducing the right of veto or to suppress the permanent members.
After the lunch break, the socials were back with new ideas to entertain the delegates before the resumption of the debates. Some pop quizzes related to geopolitics were organised, as well as karaokes and the famous “murder at the UN”.
At the end of the day, all the participants gathered in the general assembly for the closing ceremony. It began with a flash mob of all the members of the organising team. Then the Secretary Generals, the Mun directors and representants of GPSIBL, without whom all of this could never have happened, gave a speec to thank all the participants and organisers of the conference. This year was special because it marks INOMUN’s tenth anniversary, this is why we had the honor to listen to a speech from the first secretary general of the first INOMUN edition, Jordan KEUMEJIO who was nostalgic about his experience in INOMUN and was grateful that the legacy was carying on. Finally, the social team handed out diplomas to best speakers.
